Judit Alcalde, M.A.

With over 26 years of experience working with community groups and government organizations conducting research and evaluationJudit’s experience is extensive and diverse.  Through her participant-focused approach to research, Judit has worked collaboratively with a range of partners, from members of marginalized groups, to managers and directors of government offices.  She has extensive experience developing tools and administering multiple research methods, including person-to-person interviews, telephone interviews and surveys, focus groups, questionnaires and surveys, observations, and chart audits.  Judit’s experience also includes large-scale, provincial, regional, or national projects where she has been involved in bringing together a range of stakeholders and has negotiated, managed and fulfilled the ranges of goals and expectations for the research project.

Judit’s formal training was in Community Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. The skills and approaches she gained during her time in the master’s program continue to frame her work today.  At the core of these values is collaboration, citizen empowerment, research as a means to social justice and social action, and attention to diversity as a strengthJudit’s interests are diverse and she has worked on a range of topics. Much of her work has focused on women and issues related to abuse and poverty as well  as youth engagement and prevention programs for youth.   

Judit’s strengths include her ability to relate to people and to work with marginalized people, to listen and to understand what an organization needs and what project stakeholders need, her passion for social justice, her ability to always see the big picture and make connections, and her project management skills. Another aspect of Judit's diverse work experience is enriching the research skills she brings to projects  -  she has facilitated support groups with women, has developed protocols related to woman abuse, has co-edited a book in collaboration with single mothers living in poverty, has conducted training related to research, woman abuse, and other topics, and has coordinated various programs and services in the areas of health promotion, woman abuse, and cross-cultural issues.      

Judit is looking forward to using her experience and skills gained through her staff roles in various organizations and her work as an independent consultant in her role as founding member at CAP Consulting. She continues to work on professional development to strengthen the skills she brings to the partnership and is in the process of becoming a Credentialed Evaluator through the Canadian Evaluation Society.  

Before partnering with Karen and establishing CAP Consulting, Judit worked with numerous organizations and projects in a variety of roles. These include:  

  • Evaluation Consultant from 2007 – 2016 with Centre of Excellence for Youth Engagement with various youth engagement projects related to adult ally capacity building, gang prevention,  tobacco control,  and gender, mental health,  and violence prevention.   
  • Independent Research & Evaluation Consultant from 1991-2015 with numerous organizations, including the Active Living Coalition for Older Adults, the South Riverdale Community Health Centre, Kitchener-Waterloo Intercultural Women's Group, and Toronto Public Health (Environmental Scan of Women's Abuse Services - link to final report)
  • Research Director from 2005 – 2011 of the Lone Mothers Building Social Inclusion Community University Research Alliance (link to Not the Whole Story
  • Project Consultant from 2003-2005 – Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse – worked on the developed of guidelines for dealing with the abuse of older women 
  • Program Development Officer from 2000-2003 - Woman Abuse Council of Toronto,  Coordinated various initiates of the Health Committee 
  • Health Promotion Officerfrom 1994-1998 with the Community Health Department, Waterloo Region 
  • Program Coordinator from 1991-1993 with the Race Relations Committee, Kitchener-Waterloo
